FSCJ Professor of Nursing Dr. Carol Jenkins Neil Earns National Black Nurses Association Awards

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) Professor of Nursing Dr. Carol Jenkins Neil was selected for two prestigious awards from the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA).

Dr. Neil received the 2022 Trailblazer Award in honor of her exemplary leadership and innovation in nursing education, practice, research, advocacy and community engagements. She also received the NBNA Daisy Health Equity Chapter President Leadership Award in recognition of extraordinary leadership to advance the mission and vision of NBNA by addressing health equity while meeting the needs of the community.

“Dr. Neil’s commitment to her students and to enhancing the level and access of health care in this community is an inspiration,” said College President John Avendano, Ph.D. “This well-deserved recognition speaks to the tremendous level of skill, knowledge and passion she brings to the nursing profession and developing the nurses of tomorrow.”

Carol Jenkins Neil, Ph.D., RN is a professor of Nursing in the RN to BSN program at FSCJ, President of the First Coast Black Nurses Association, Lifetime Member of the NBNA, and chairs the NBNA Population Health Committee. She was the recipient of the 2020 Nurse of the Year for Community Service. Dr. Neil has written grants and received funding to address issues in the community. Her community outreach includes collaboration with Jacksonville medical associations, Urban League, Hispanic Nurses Association, health systems and many other partners in the health care space.
