FSCJ Qualifies for Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence

Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) has been named eligible to be awarded the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. FSCJ joins a group of only 150 chosen colleges, selected from 1200 colleges nationally, to be considered for the grand prize of $1 million.

First announced at the White House in 2010, the Aspen Prize focuses on rewarding and spotlighting community colleges with strong achievement and improvement in student outcomes. President Cynthia Bioteau expressed her excitement over the College’s eligibility, and said, “To receive this recognition and invitation in itself is an affirmation of our collective journey forward.”

The Aspen Prize aims to bring a significant level of public attention to community colleges, and assesses achievements in four areas: student learning; certificate and degree completion; employment and earnings for graduates; and access and success for minority and low-income students.

The award-winning college will be announced in March of 2017.
