When Florida Governor Rick Scott challenged educators to offer bachelor degrees at a cut-rate $10,000, the media, including CNN Newsroom Anchor Carol Costello, had a lot of questions. CNN, Nov. 28, 2012.

Access to higher education has been a big concern for consumers as tuition becomes more costly and public funding shrinks in the economic downturn. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a challenge to Florida educational institutions to create affordable bachelor degrees, costing no more than $10,000. At Florida State College at Jacksonville, (now former) President Steven Wallace, Ph.D., is willing to explore the possibilities, even though bachelor degrees at FSCJ are already among the most affordable in the nation, coming in around $13,000 for tuition and fees. CNN contacted FSCJ to see if Dr. Wallace would go live on-air to answer some questions for Anchor Carol Costello in her November 28, 2012, 9-11 a.m. daily news program. Wallace agreed and in a four-minute live interview from a Riverside studio, explained the concerns, challenges and possible solutions in providing a $10,000 bachelor degree in a field that would yield graduates a good income in a high-skill, high-demand career. CNN graciously posted the link to the interview as a public service.
