FSCJ Forensics Team Sets Another Record for the College

Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) Forensics team keeps the momentum going with a second-place win at the 2016 Florida Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Championship (FIFA).

FIFA is the statewide championship for all schools in Florida, including community colleges, state colleges and universities.

This is the highest the FSCJ team has placed at this competition in more than two decades.

“We are elated to bring home a second-place win for the FIFA championship,” said FSCJ Professor of Speech and Director of Forensics Chad Kuyper. “This year’s competition was very impressive and challenging. Our students competed against some of the absolute best teams across the region and we want to congratulate all of the other schools on such dynamic performances.”

This placing follows the team’s first-place win at the Florida College System Activities Association Forensics State Championship back in February.

The Forensics Team continued their success at the National Forensic Association National Championship at Ball State University, from April 14-18, 2016. The team beat out other powerhouse colleges and universities to place sixth in the nation in their division. This is the highest the College has ever placed in this tournament.

Julian Lopez was named a national quarterfinalist in Rhetorical Criticism, placing him among the top 24 speakers in the nation at the event. The team is coached by FSCJ Professors of Speech Chad Kuyper and Dr. Michael Chouinard.
