JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) celebrated the grand opening of its simulated restaurant environment, Cafe Frisch, on Thursday, February 15, 2018, with a ribbon cutting ceremony, facility tours and a student-prepared gourmet lunch.

Inspired and made possible by a generous gift from the Harry Frisch family and the Beaver Street Foundation, Cafe Frisch is operated by students in FSCJ’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality program under the instruction of faculty chefs. Students receive hands-on experience in all aspects of restaurant operation, including food handling and preparation, hosting, serving and management.

“Cafe Frisch provides our students exclusive learning experiences that not only build their aptitude, but also enhance their employability,” said FSCJ President Dr. Cynthia Bioteau. “We are immensely grateful for the partnership and friendship we have with Harry, the entire Frisch family and Beaver Street Foundation which only helps to solidify FSCJ’s position as the community’s college.”

The Culinary Arts and Hospitality program moved from FSCJ’s North Campus to Downtown Campus in 2017 to better accommodate an expansion that was designed to increase relationship cultivation with area schools, organizations and service industry employers to provide enhanced career exploration and hands-on educational opportunities.

Open to the public for lunch on Tuesday and Thursday and dinner on Thursday, Cafe Frisch provides students with a hands-on learning experience and showcases their culinary and service talents to the community.

Visit the website for the updated schedule and cuisine focus. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (904) 633-8151.
