What Kids Can Do Inc., a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that champions youth as knowledge creators and social contributors, has awarded Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) a $2,000 grant as part of the 2014 Youth Research for Action grant for a project entitled "Stress among Dual Enrollment Students: Thriving or Surviving?" FSCJ is one of only 13 organizations in the nation to be awarded one of these grants. What makes this award particularly exciting is that the grant application was developed, written and will be implemented by dual enrollment students at the College. The project is under the supervision of Naita Guine, Kent Campus dual enrollment coordinator.

Research efforts will explore a relevant and important topic: the impact of stress on dual enrollment students. Managing high school pressures, career decisions, family responsibilities, after school and summer jobs, while simultaneously enrolled in college, can be a stressful feat. This initiative will identify effective strategies for managing stress. Students will use the research results to produce a paper, multimedia pieces and a workshop for an upcoming regional conference.
