Astronomer, teacher, administrator, adventurer, writer, editor, explorer, good guy and self-proclaimed space cadet, Mike Reynolds, Ph.D., is at Kennedy Space Center this weekend for a bittersweet farewell to the Space Shuttle program. Although a finalist in the Teacher is Space program in the early 1980s, Reynolds did not leave the earth aboard Challenger, an honor that went instead to Christa McAuliffe. Reynolds did however continue reaching for the stars and is known and respected worldwide, for all the reasons listed above and more. Reynolds is blogging about his experiences at KSC, and you can check it out here http://www.floridastatecollegenetwork.com/blog/view/sts135-launch-status . We are fortunate to have Reynolds in our midst, at FSCJ, in Northeast Florida and everywhere else he wanders.
Coming up next week soon: a nefarious list (from the U.S. Department of Education???) recently included Florida State College at Jacksonville among those as having the highest tuition increases in the country. It's what was left out that makes a world of difference. We're working on the details (there was some faulty reporting by the College to the agency that collects all these details) but here's something to consider: At the same time FSCJ was included on the fastest growing tuition list, the College was listed as being among the public four-year institutions with the lowest tuition. With the national average stated as $6,397, which is pretty reasonable, FSCJ was less than half that amount with tuition and fees at $2,553. There's more to come on this one.
