The Oct. 15-16, 2011 weekend presented two, one-day tournaments against some of the toughest schools in the nation, such as Western Kentucky University and Tennessee State. Once again, the team had a strong showing, taking down highly ranked competitors from around the country.
Day One:
■Garrett McLain advanced to semifinals and then the final round of Impromptu Speaking, earning sixth place. Garrett also placed sixth in Informative Speaking.
■Catherine Byerly had a strong showing, as well, placing sixth in Communication Analysis.
Day Two:
■Ben Beutjer advanced to semifinals in Impromptu Speaking, and advanced to finals in After Dinner Speaking, where he went on to place third.
■Newcomer Bruna Leite advanced to semifinals in Prose Interpretation.
■Catherine Byerly once again broke to finals in Communication Analysis, placing fifth.
These students excelled in some of the fiercest competition the College has seen in years, according to Professor of Speech and Forensics Director Chad Kuyper. Stay tuned for more news when we host our own tournament, Thurs.-Sat., Nov. 10-12, at South Campus.
