JACKSONVILLE – The Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts will come alive next month with multiple performances of "The Wizard of Oz" with each role being portrayed by students.
The Summer Musical Theatre Experience provides the opportunity for local area high school students to work handson with some of the highest recognized local theatre professionals in Northeast Florida.
Here’s how the story goes: Like so many girls her age, little Dorothy Gale of Kansas dreams of what lies "over the rainbow." One day a tornado hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. In her magical world, Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination.
The show includes the songs, "Over The Rainbow," "Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead)," "If I Only Had A Brain, If I Only Had A Heart, If I Only Had The Nerve, We’re Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road)," "The Jitterbug," "The Merry Old Land of Oz" and "If I Were King Of The Forest."
Opening night is July 24 at 7:30 p.m. with two Sunday afternoon matinees. Tickets are $25 for reserved seating, $20 for seniors 55 and up, military with valid ID and children under 12.
