FSCJ’s DramaWorks to Present “The Repossession of James Edward Pough: Mass Shooting in Baymeadows”
WHAT: Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) DramaWorks will present “The Repossession of James Edward Pough: Mass Shooting in Baymeadows” by FSCJ Professor Tim Gilmore. The play is based on the 1990 mass shooting at the GMAC Payment Center in Jacksonville where nine people lost their lives.
The FSCJ DramaWorks production of “The Repossession of James Edward Pough” features 15 student actors and more than 10 crew members from all areas of the First Coast, with set and lighting design by Johnny Pettegrew, FSCJ’s director of theatre and entertainment technology, and directed by Professor of Theatre Ken McCulough.

About the play and playwright:
Considered to be one of the first workplace mass shootings in U.S. history, the massacre at the GMAC payment center in Baymeadows on June 18, 1990 shocked the nation and the city of Jacksonville. The shooter, James Edward Pough, committed suicide after he killed nine people and wounded several more. The dialogue in the play is taken primarily from direct interviews with family and friends of the victims, as well as survivors of the tragedy, and gives a new perspective on the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in our society.
FSCJ Professor of English Tim Gilmore is the author of 15 books. At his website jaxpsychogeo.com, he tells the stories of more than 300 strange and significant Jacksonville locations and their history. Tim is the organizer of JaxbyJax Literary Arts Festival and the JaxbyJax Reading Series. He holds a doctorate in English from the University of Florida and teaches creative writing at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
