The Administrative & Professional Collaborative (APC) is the representative voice for the Administrative & Professional employees of FSCJ.

In an effort to build cohesiveness, awareness and collegiality, each month we put a “spotlight” on one of our members. December's Administrative & Professional Collaborative (APC) spotlight shines on Jerry Thor.

As Director of Athletics, Jerry Thor oversees the seven varsity sports that make up FSCJ Athletics (men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, baseball, softball, and volleyball), plus five fitness centers with intramural opportunities at multiple locations, while also supporting the Outdoor Education Center at the Nassau Center in collaboration with facilitators from across the College.

Jerry has served in higher education for over a decade as an instructor, coach and administrator and comes to FSCJ from the athletic director chair at Carl Sandburg College. Prior to Sandburg, Jerry was the assistant athletic director at Iowa Central for the top-ranked two-year athletic department in the nation. Jerry’s coaching experience includes building men’s and women’s tennis as well as esports programs from the ground up to win national championships at multiple institutions.

A junior college product himself, Jerry graduated from Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC) in Illinois followed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned a degree in finance. He later earned his master’s in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine and is currently a doctoral candidate in higher education. In 2015, he was inducted into MVCC’s Alumni Hall of Fame.

Jerry and his wife Veronica are originally from Chicago and have three sons who occupy all of his free time. Since joining FSCJ this past August, he looks forward to building strong relationships across the College, engaging our community, and helping the coaching staff lead programs that enable our students to aspire to and achieve more in life for having been a part of them.

Our spotlight shines on each campus/center at least once a year. Nominations for the spotlight may be directed to your campus representative or any officer. Learn more about APC on our website, http://blogs.fscj.edu/apcollaborative.
