Transient Students
FSCJ Incoming Transient Students
If you’re currently enrolled at another college or university and want to take classes as a guest student at FSCJ, you can register as a transient student. You’ll be able to earn college credits and transfer them back to your home institution. Be sure to obtain approval from your college or university before pursuing transient enrollment at FSCJ. We encourage you to learn more about class modalities and available course offerings. Be sure to check out the information below to register for classes correctly.
Incoming Transient Students
Students who are attending another state college/university but want to take course(s) on a temporary basis at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) are considered incoming transient students. Incoming transient students must obtain approval from their home institution prior to enrolling in courses at FSCJ to ensure transferability of credits back to their home institution.
If your home institution is a Florida public institution, you will need to apply via FloridaShines.org. If you are unsure if your institution is a Florida public institution, please visit FloridaShines.org for further information.
Before Applying in Florida Shines:
- Select the course(s) you want to take from the FSCJ online class schedule. To determine if a course requires prerequisites, search course via the FSCJ online Catalog.
- Contact an academic advisor at your home institution to ensure course transferability.
- After discussing transient enrollment with your Academic Advisor at your home institution:
- Log into FloridaShines.org to complete the Transient Student Admission Application. The completed application will electronically submit to your home institution for approval.
- After all required areas of your home institution approve the application, it will then be routed electronically to FSCJ for processing.
Note: Check the status of your application at any time by logging into FloridaShines.org. It may take up to 10 days, on average, for the home and transient institutions to complete the application process.
If your home institution is a private Florida institution or out of state institution, you will need to obtain an approval letter from your home institution.
- Select the course(s) you want to take from the FSCJ online class schedule. To determine if a course requires prerequisites, search course via the FSCJ online Catalog.
- Contact an academic advisor at your home institution to ensure course transferability.
After discussing transient enrollment with your Academic Advisor at your home institution:
- Submit an FSCJ admissions application.
- Submit your completed approval letter with your application. Completed approval letters must contain the students’ name, approved term, approved course(s), approved institution, and must be signed by the approving department/advisor.
Please note that all transient requests must be submitted by the start of C session classes of each term.
Once your application has been completely processed, you will receive an email that states your Student ID number and your next steps. Tuition and fees must be paid by the advertised payment due dates. For steps on how to enroll in classes, please visit - Registration Process
FSCJ Outgoing Transient Students
For students currently attending Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) but want to take course(s) at another college/university, FSCJ is your home institution. Students must contact an FSCJ academic advisor to ensure credits taken at another college/university will transfer back to FSCJ.
Outgoing Transient Eligibility Requirements
- Students requesting to take courses transiently must meet the following criteria:
- Be classified as degree-seeking in a college credit program
- Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher at time of review
- Have no active holds preventing enrollment
- The requested course must apply to current FSCJ Academic Requirements
- Total combined enrollment may not exceed 18 credit hours
- Have documented note of approval from Academic Advisor prior to applying
- Cannot be enrolled at FSCJ in the same course during the same requested term
- Not previously completed the requested course with a grade of “C” or better
- Fourth attempt of any course cannot be approved without an approved appeal
Course requirements must be met per FSCJ's current catalog
- Prerequisites must be completed with a passing grade
- Corequisites must be completed with a passing grade or currently be enrolled during the same term.
If the host institution is a Florida public institution, you will need to apply via FloridaShines.org
Before applying in Florida Shines:
- Select the course(s) you want to take at the other college/university.
- Contact an FSCJ academic advisor to ensure course transferability.
After discussing transient enrollment with your Academic Advisor:
- Log into FloridaShines.org to complete a Transient Student Admissions Application.
- The completed application will be electronically submitted to FSCJ for approval. After approval, the application will then be routed electronically to the transfer institution for processing. During this entire process, you will receive email notifications on the status of your application from each institution.

If the institution in which you are seeking transient enrollment is a private FL institution or OOS institution, you will need to submit a transient request form
- Check with the host institution about their transient admissions process.
- Select the course(s) you want to take at the transient institution.
- Contact an FSCJ academic advisor to ensure course transferability.
- Complete a Transient Student Request form. If approved, you will receive an official transient approval letter in your student account to issue to the transient institution.
Completed Transient Request forms may be submitted to any campus Advising Center or by:

Transient Student Request forms will receive an approval or denial response within 10 business days after receipt of the request form via the student’s email account. Please note that all transient requests must be submitted by the start of C session classes of each term.
