About the Program

The TRIO Student Support Services–Veterans (Salute to Success) program at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to empower military veterans as they transition from service to student life.

The program provides personalized academic, career, and wellness support designed to help veterans persist in college, complete their degree or certificate, and successfully transfer to a four-year program or university.

Serving 120 eligible participants, the program fills a vital gap in postsecondary services for veterans across Northeast Florida.

Who We Serve

TRIO SSS–Veterans serves U.S. military veterans who are:

• Enrolled or accepted for enrollment at FSCJ
• Discharged under honorable conditions
• And meet one or more of the following federal TRIO eligibility criteria:
• Low-income according to federal guidelines
• Individual with a documented disability
• Educationally disadvantaged (neither parent obtained a bachelor’s degree)

• Tutoring and study-skills development
• Career exploration, resume building, and interview preparation
• Campus tours and transfer planning assistance

Veteran Transition Services

• Guidance for using GI Bill® and VA education benefits
• Assistance with Joint Services Transcript (JST) evaluation
• Workshops on time management, transition, and work-life balance

Wellness & Community

• Counseling referrals and mental-wellness support
• Financial-literacy and benefit-management sessions
• Veteran-to-veteran mentoring and networking opportunities
• Cultural and enrichment events promoting connection and belonging

Eligibility & How to Apply

To participate, you must:

• Be a U.S. military veteran discharged under honorable conditions
• Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at FSCJ
• Meet at least one of the following:
• Low-income (based on federal income guidelines)
• Individual with a documented disability
• Educationally disadvantaged (neither parent obtained a bachelor’s degree)

How to Apply:

1. Complete the TRIO SSS–Veterans Interest Form to help determine program eligibility.
   Complete the Interest Form
2. Eligible students will be invited to complete the program application and participate in a required virtual interview with TRIO SSS–Veterans staff. The purpose of this interview is to learn more about your academic goals, interests, and any challenges or barriers you may be experiencing. This helps us determine if the TRIO SSS–Veterans program is the right fit for your needs and how we can best support your success.
