WOKV: FSCJ SET TO OPEN INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL TECHNOLOGY CENTER
There’s a new resource available to students at Florida State College at Jacksonville starting tomorrow.
The school will hold a grand opening event to introduce the new Instrumentation and Control Technology Center.
It will feature state-of-the-are equipment similar to what is being used right now in the world’s top manufacturing systems.
“We’re bringing a lot of the technologies that are out there in industry, bringing them to the classroom floor,” says Dr.Douglas Brauer, the dean of engineering technology at FSCJ.
He says this is an example of collaboration between industries in the Jacksonville area. The laboratory is inside the FSCJ Advanced Technology Center, and it will allow students in the Engineering Technology Associate in Science degree program to work with the tools they would have in the real world.
“It’s going to open up the door to a lot of other students that will have access to the equipment,” Brauer says.
The concentration is possible because of a $499,655 grant from the National Science Foundation. That money, along with support from industry partners, allows the school to get equipment ranging from data acquisition systems to virtual instrumentation.
The grand opening will take place at the FSCJ Downtown campus at 2:30 p.m.
