JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Drones are being used more and more for first responders, and this week firefighters and police officers from around the state trained on the best ways unmanned aerial vehicles can be used in emergency situations.

It’s the first-ever drone use for first responders class at Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Fire Academy of the South.

The director said rescuers learned how to use drones for search and rescue, hazmat situations, fires, crashes and active shooter scenarios.

Fire Academy instructors said local departments will soon use the technology for daily responses. The next class will be held in a few months.
