Will a Super Star Emerge on Super Tuesday?

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM
In the week before Super Tuesday, Dr. Marcella Washington talks about what's at stake for Republican presidential hopefuls with WJXT Anchor Bruce Hamilton.

Florida State College at Jacksonville Political Science Professor Marcella Washington, Ph.D., met early on Feb. 29 with WJXT Morning Show Anchor Bruce Hamilton to explain what's at stake for the Republican presidential candidiates pursuing the party nomination to run against President Obama in November. Although Romney has roots in Michigan, Dr. Washington points out that he squeaked by Rick Santorum with a mere three-percent margin. Romney and Santorum appear to be engaged in a battle trying to convince the most conservative wing of the Republican Party that each is the right candidate while Romney tries to appeal to the more moderate Republicans as well. Meanwhile Gingrich works the south, presumably hoping his Georgia roots will spread out on Super Tuesday and give him some sorely needed southern states. Dr. Washington poses questions Americans should be watcing for answers to: Will the Republican Party try to call off the party for the less successful candidiates to clear the way for a clear winner on the way to the Republican Convention, or will the conservative ranks to which they appeal prevent that from happening?

Dr. Washington is a frequent guest on news and talk shows, sharing her political insight and expertise with the community outside of her classroom as well as with her students on Florida State College's South Campus.
