What's up? Punk?

Why is this man yelling?

HE'S NOT YELLING. HE'S SINGING. AND DOING RESEARCH. Sociology Professor Michael Lorr, Ph.D. found out recently that an article he and his co-author wrote was accepted for publication in the esteemed Journal of Contemporary Ethnography. The article, "More than Just a Soundtrack: Toward a Technology of the Collective in Hardcore Punk," is the result of years of research conducted by Lorr which you could say began when he was 15 years old and first got into punk, experiencing the culture and playing in bands that toured the USA and Canada. According to Lorr, it was his interest in punk that got him interested in Sociology. In his March 14, 2013 interview with Melissa Ross, host of the WJCT Public Radio program First Coast Connect, Lorr talks a little bit about his history, punk culture as he experienced it growing up, and punk culture and music in Jacksonville. Punk is more than just music and certainly more than fashion and attitude.  Listen to the interview and see if punk doesn't pogo its way into your heart, just a little bit.  Lorr and co-author Black Hawk Hancock plan to turn the article into a book and will be doing experiential research in the Chicago area where Hancock resides, in Jacksonville, and mosh pits, garages and basements around the country.
