I was saddened to read that Florida legislators would even consider capping four-year degrees at state colleges.

Last I heard, the popularity of Florida universities and success of sports teams have made them competitive enough that they can pick and choose among only the highest qualified candidates.

There are many other students who might not fall into that upper echelon, but still qualify for and deserve a four-year-degree that is a more cost-effective alternative.

Cynthia Bioteau, president of Florida State College in Jacksonville, makes some excellent points for quality state college education, and sets a high standard so that our whole city benefits.

As our society becomes more technologically complex, workforce needs have changed.

Is there really a problem with having too many people earning four-year degrees in our state?

If my grandmother were still alive, she’d have commented that it was like complaining that the bride was too beautiful.
