TU: Nitrogen Creamery Opens Its First Storefront in Jacksonville Beach

Nitrogen Creamery owners Bonny and Chad Abernathy are opening their first brick-and-mortar location on Wednesday in Jacksonville Beach after two years of operating a food truck.

The food truck will continue to operate and focus more on food items.

“We always wanted to open a storefront,” she said. “We started with the food truck before we found the perfect location for us to venture out.”

Nitrogen Creamery is at 1316 3rd St. N.

Customers can pick an ice cream or yogurt base with nearly 15 toppings, including chocolate chips and Oreos, before it’s frozen with liquid nitrogen.

“We make it in front of you and it’s ready within minutes,” Abernathy said. “We wanted to do a different concept that no one has experienced.”

A grand opening celebration will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the beach store.

Chad is a graduate of Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Culinary Arts program and previously worked at bb’s restaurant in San Marco.
