TU: Free dental services available Saturday in Jacksonville and March 12 in Orange Park

Florida State College at Jacksonville will host a dental wellness event Saturday for children ages 4 to 18.

Free services to be offered at the Jacksonville Dental Society’s 20th annual Give Kids a Smile Day will include fillings, cleanings and primary tooth extractions.

The event will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the FSCJ North Campus dental clinic in Building A, 4501 Capper Road in Jacksonville.

All children must be pre-screened for eligibility — screening appointments are available 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the clinic. Parents or legal guardians must be present at the pre-screening and the Saturday event for their child to receive care, and masks are required.

Give Kids a Smile is an American Dental Association initiative in conjunction with National Children’s Dental Health Month in February. Almost 1,000 events are planned across the country in 2022 to provide services for more than 260,000 children, according to the association.

The next event will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 12, as Sunrise Emergency & Family Dental Care in Orange Park and the Florida Baptist Convention's dental ministry host their second annual "Smiles for Miles 904."

Free dental exams, X-rays, extractions and other emergency dental treatments will be provided for adults. Pre-screenings will be 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 10 at Sunrise dental, with the first 100 patients getting March 12 appointments for treatment.

Sunrise is at 1700 Wells Road, Suite 19. Six dentists, two hygienists, seven dental assistants and five office members will provide care at the dental office and Florida Baptist Convention’s mobile dental unit outside.
