Let’s applaud Florida State College at Jacksonville for winning a $1.8 million grant from the federal Department of Labor to boost and expand job training partnerships across our community.
To date, FSCJ is the only college in Florida to receive the grant, which was created under President Barack Obama’s America College Promise plan and designed to strengthen the ties between community colleges, their students and area industries that create jobs.
FSCJ will use the grant funds to support its School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and provide more training opportunities for students in advanced manufacturing fields.
FSCJ has already built some impressive workforce partnerships with companies, agencies and organizations across our region. Among those working with FSCJ on various job training-related initiatives are:
• Anheuser-Busch.
• First Coast Manufacturers Association.
• JAX Chamber.
• The city of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs and Veterans Department.
• Fresh Ministries.
• The state’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
• JAXUSA Partnership.
• United Way of Northeast Florida.
• Early Learning Coalition of Duval.
