Convocation is an annual themed event at which faculty and staff are welcomed back to campus for the beginning of the traditional academic year each Fall. For the 2011 Convocation, Florida State College at Jacksonville honors the military and public safety professionals who protect and keep our citizens safe throughout the year. Special guest speakers are Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, Mayor Alvin Brown, Rear Admiral John Scorby, Sheriff John Rutherford and Fire Chief Charles Moreland. Also playing a significant part will be the Administrators, Faculty and Staff of the College's Military and Public Dafety Division, who together hold more than 1,000 combined years of military experience.
The Convocation will include a Remembrance of those who lost their lives as victims of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attack on the United States.
Convocation begins at 8 a.m. with indoor and outdoor exhibits. The indoor program with guest speakers begins at 9:30 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 11 a.m. At 11 a.m. the event moves outdoors for a dedication of the Points of Hope sculpture, Honor Guard and 21 Gun Salute.
