Student Spotlight: From the Lab to the Kitchen

Meet Ericka Jenkins. She is an aspiring chef in the School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Her family was the biggest influence in choosing Culinary Arts as a future career.

“I would look at my mom and look at my grandma, and I wanted to cook like that,” said Ericka Jenkins, Florida State College student.

Ericka spent three semesters working to become a chemist, when she decided to leave the lab and step into the kitchen.

“Ever since being in culinary, it has been a creative explosion. I have so many more resources, just more knowledge to pull from,” says Jenkins.

Ericka hopes to combine her love of food with what she has learned about the hospitality business. She plans to one day open a restaurant inside her very own hotel. With the education she has received from Florida State College, she knows her dreams can become reality.

“FSCJ has offered me the tools and the vehicle to put my dreams in motion,” says Jenkins.
