One-by-One exhibit highlights First Coast students who dropped out--and dropped back in

Students drop out of high school in Northeast Florida at an alarming rate, but with guidance and inspiration, some of them drop back in with great promise for successful futures.

With the help of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund and support from Florida State College at Jacksonville, two former high-school dropouts, Mercedes Trapp and James Williams, are telling their stories to inspire other dropouts and potentaial droputs to complete their educations, in the One-by-One campaign. The traveling exhibit, One in Three (a reference to the one-in-three students who will not graduate from high school), was in the spotlight Jan. 12 when WTEV Action News Reporter Tracy Collins talked to Trapp and Williams about their journeys and successes; JPEF's Rachel Tutwiler about how the exhibit is reaching out to the community; and Florida State College Associate Dean Donna Martin, about how FSCJ Academic Success Centers help students reach their goals.
