New FSCJ president brings a welcoming approach: Times-Union editorial

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM
"There are two ways to view the job facing Cynthia Bioteau, the new president of Florida State College at Jacksonville."

From the Jan. 29, 2014 Florida Times-Union:

"You could say she has a sweet deal. The mismanagement of the Steve Wallace regime is history. Interim President William Holcomb did an admirable job of righting the ship. Bioteau has been given a clean slate, a new beginning, a chance to move forward.

Or you could say that she has the difficult job of turning around a huge operation, fixing outdated technology and restoring morale that has been buffeted by bad management and negative publicity.

It won’t be easy, and she recognizes it will take some time."

ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY

“'For every person that I meet with personally, and listen to, and learn from, and that I follow up with, I’m not just a yes person,' she said.

So she was barely on the job a few weeks before she started making the rounds to community stakeholders like the Times-Union editorial board. And she certainly said all the right things about openness and transparency."
