The state college, which has its main campus Downtown, is seeking to add student housing, a cafe and a Center for Civic Engagement within walking distance.
In order to achieve that goal, the college is looking at two properties within an abandoned five-story, 26,288-square-foot property located at 218 W. Church Street.
FSCJ President Cynthia Bioteau told the Times-Union that plans to add student housing – particularly, in Downtown – came about after significant demand, especially from younger and international students.
Expanding their campus is, however, also about contributing to Downtown revitalization.
The student housing in Downtown would be the first for FSCJ, which expects enrollment to keep increasing. The housing will be ready, at the earliest, in fall 2016.
