The first show is at 10 a.m. at the Nathan H. Wilson Center at 11901 Beach Blvd.; the second show starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Kent Campus Main Theater at 3939 Roosevelt Blvd. Voice interpretation in English will be provided at both shows.

Author McDevitt to receive award

Brunswick, Ga., author Jack McDevitt will receive the 2015 Robert A. Heinlein Lifetime Achievement Award on Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore for his work in technical and scientifically oriented fiction that serves to inspire the human exploration of space.

Heinlein (1907-1988) was often called the “dean of science fiction writers,” and was one of the most influential and prolific science fiction authors of his time.

McDevitt’s numerous novels with characters Priscilla Hutchins and Alex Benedict were cited as having captured the spirit of Heinlein and the stellar frontier, as well as his numerous other novels and short stories involving interstellar travel.

The award is sponsored by Heinlein’s wife, Virginia, in collaboration with the Baltimore Science Fiction Society.

McDevitt was also the mid-2013 recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 49th Georgia Author of the Year Awards in Kennesaw, and the mid-2007 winner of a Nebula Award for his novel “Seeker.”
