In the Times-Union: Opening the Doors of Opportunity with FSCJ Environmental Program

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM
EPA Grant funds environmental job training at FSCJ, with emphasis on veterans. FSCJ environmental program has created possibilities for new careers.

Times-Union Reporter William Browning spent a morning with students, faculty and staff of the U.S. EPA Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training program in session at the College's Urban Resource Center. Eligible applicants will receive eight weeks of rigorous, dedicated training. Successful completion results in a notebook full of valuable certifications that open doors to environmental jobs. Previous graduates (about 200) have a high employment rate (79 percent) and successful graduates have gone on to further their educations. Several of the faculty and staff are graduates of the program themselves, so they know what it takes. What it gives is opportunity, including free tuition (funded by EPA Grant) for the program, PLUS one student from each graduating class is awarded full tuition scholarship for the FSCJ associate in science degree in Environmental Science.
