FSCJ to Host Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Vision Education Rehabilitation Center
WHAT: In observance of Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) 7th annual Vision Awareness Day and Blindness Awareness Month, the Vision Education and Rehabilitation Center (VERC) will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to present their newly redesigned space to the community. The event will begin with guided visual disability activities to bring awareness to some of the experiences faced by many who are living with blindness and visual impairment.
VERC is a community-based training and rehabilitation program offered at no cost to adults and high schoolers with blindness or visual impairment. Through specialized education and training, VERC students gain the life skills necessary for their independence in the home, workplace and community.
The fully renovated space was designed to enhance the training opportunities available through improved functionality, greater mobility, and new equipment and technology.
Training is made possible by the Florida Division of Blind Services and FSCJ. Located at the Downtown Campus since 1982, VERC has maintained national accreditation and trains more than 400 students annually. To learn more about VERC, visit fscj.edu/community/vision-education-rehabilitation-center.
