FSCJ Professor of Nursing Named Nurse of the Year for Community Service
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) Professor of Nursing Carol Jenkins Neil, Ph.D., RN, was recently named Nurse of the Year for Community Service by the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) in recognition of her outstanding and exemplary community service.
In addition to her role at the College, Dr. Neil is president of the First Coast Black Nurses Association. She has also served in various leadership roles including: co-leader of the Diversity Council for the Florida Action Coalition, founder of Friends of Adult Day Services, former CEO of Hope Adult Day Services, and nominations committee member of the National League of Nursing. Dr. Neil is also the recipient of numerous accolades including the Great 100 Nurses award.
“We are proud of Dr. Neil’s commitment to our students, our College and to elevating the level and access of health care for our community,” said College President John Avendano, Ph.D. “This award is well-deserved and we are honored to have Dr. Neil as part of our distinguished body of faculty who care so deeply for their work and the success of our students.”
Under her leadership, FSCJ hosted its first Health Disparities Summit in 2019 which brought together group of health care professionals to bring attention to the topic of health care disparities that exist here in our community.
