FSCJ Men’s Basketball Team to Compete in Regional VIII Tournament
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) BlueWave Men’s Basketball Team received an at-large bid to play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region VIII Tournament, which will be held in Niceville, FL beginning Wednesday, April 7.
Ending the season with an 11-9 overall record and 9-9 conference record, this is the first time the men’s basketball team has competed in this tournament since 2004. They finished third in the Central Conference, which is considered the strongest conference in the region after combining the remaining men’s teams from the previous year’s Mid-Florida Conference and Suncoast Conference.
“We are extremely proud of this team and how much they’ve grown over the years under Coach Frank Burnell’s leadership,” said Director of Athletics Ginny Alexander. “With our last appearance in this tournament being 17 years ago, we are eager to see them compete and work toward bringing home the title.”
Leading the team in scoring is GianFranco Grafals, a freshman from Fleming Island, with an average of 16.5 points per game and Evan Busby, a sophomore from Deltona, who is averaging 12.1 points per game.
FSCJ is slated to play #2 Indian River State College on Thursday, April 8 at 1 p.m. The game will be livestreamed at FCSAA.network.MBB.tournament. For tournament information, visit nwfraiders.com/region8tourney.
