FSCJ’s DramaWorks to present postponed theatre production of William Shakespeare’s Comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing”

For Immediate Release: October 5, 2020

FSCJ’s DramaWorks to present postponed theatre production of William Shakespeare’s Comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing”

WHAT: Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) DramaWorks will present the comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare outdoors with two daytime weekend matinees.

The production was originally scheduled in April for the Nathan H. Wilson Center’s Mainstage but was postponed due to COVID-19. Now moving outdoors, the production returns to Shakespeare’s origins with a festive daylight atmosphere of community and laughter.

“Much Ado About Nothing” is one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. Written between 1598 and 1599 at the peak of the Bard’s creative powers, “Much Ado About Nothing” is a story about love, deception and redemption.

The setting of the FSCJ DramaWorks production will be in 1945 at the end of World War II, and will include music and dances from the period. It will feature 22 student actors and 10-plus crew members from all areas of the First Coast, with set and lighting design by Director of Theatre and Entertainment Technology Johnny Pettegrew. It’s important to note that this is Mr. Pettegrew’s official last show at FSCJ upon his retirement, with well over 75 productions at the College over 28 years.

The audience will be socially distanced in their seating arrangements. Masks will be required for both audience and actors/crew. Bring your lawn chairs and a picnic of snacks! Alcohol and smoking are prohibited on any FSCJ property.
