FSCJ’s Vision Education & Rehabilitation Center Receives Five-Year Accreditation

Nov 1, 2022, 10:57 AM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) Vision Education & Rehabilitation Center (VERC) has received a full five-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Council for Blind and Low Vision Services (NAC) Inc. The accreditation is a significant milestone in the VERC’s ongoing process of employing best practices and delivering services that focus on positive outcomes for consumers with blindness and low vision.

The VERC has maintained its NAC accreditation since 2011. Annually, it serves more than 350 adult and adolescent students with blindness and low vision. Services include training in assistive technology, orientation and mobility, activities of daily living, counseling and job readiness. This training is available at no cost to the consumer through funding provided by the State of Florida Division of Blind Services and FSCJ.

NAC is the only accrediting body that focuses solely on organizations serving blind and low-vision consumers. Accreditation involves a recognized process of accessing organizational structure, process and outcome. Structure encompasses the setting in which services are delivered. Process encompasses the delivery of services. Outcome denotes changes in the consumer’s behavior, knowledge and function. NAC accreditation embraces structure, process and outcome by engaging the subject organization in a detailed self-assessment using NAC-developed, evidence-informed standards as well as an on-site peer review.
