FSCJ will be closed for spring break from Monday, March 17 – Sunday, March 23, 2025. We look forward to serving you when we return on March 24.
WHAT: Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) will host faculty from the University of Miami for a training activity called, “Medical Response to Active Shooter and Intentional Mass Violence Incidents.” The simulation program is designed to facilitate law enforcement and Fire/EMS professionals working more closely together in incidents of mass violence involving an active shooter or explosive devises.
Building upon lessons learned from the Columbine High School shooting on through the Pulse Nightclub shooting, the goal of the training is for first responders to reach victims sooner, reducing morbidity and mortality by rapid stabilization at or near the point of injury, followed swiftly by transportation to a definitive medical care facility.

The training will be conducted in conjunction with FSCJ’s Fire Academy of the South, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, St. Johns County Fire Rescue, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, St. Augustine Police Department, St. Augustine Beach Police Department and Jacksonville Beach Police Department.
The curriculum was developed by the University of Miami Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education as part of a grant from the Florida Department of Education for statewide dissemination.
