WHAT: Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) is proud to celebrate the thousands of students who have successfully completed their program of study at the 51st annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 10. FSCJ Interim President Mr. Kevin E. Hyde and the FSCJ District Board of Trustees will award diplomas to students who have earned a bachelor’s and/or associate degree.
Approximately 3,689 degrees will be awarded for the 2017-18 academic year to FSCJ graduates and candidates, with some students earning more than one degree. Of these, 2,212 are associate in arts degrees, 771 are associate in science degrees and 706 are bachelor’s degrees.
The 2018 keynote speaker is Jacksonville native and Philanthropist Mr. Rashean Mathis. After retiring from a successful 13-year career in the National Football League, Mr. Mathis has since founded the Rashean Mathis Foundation and dedicated himself to being a catalyst for conversations and solutions to better unite our community.
Mr. Hyde will present the Distinguished Alumni Award to State Representative Clay Yarborough. In addition, an honorary degree will be presented to Mrs. Miyuki Scheidel in recognition for her longstanding service and philanthropic support to FSCJ and the Jacksonville community.
The faculty and student procession will begin promptly at 3:45 p.m. with the ceremony immediately following at 4 p.m.
