FSCJ’s District Board of Trustees Welcomes New Board of Trustees Member

young-wayneJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) District Board of Trustees welcomes Orrin Wayne Young, Captain, USN (Ret.), as its newest Board member, appointed by Governor Rick Scott.

Mr. Young currently serves as the director of response and environmental programs for JEA, where he has spent more than a decade of his career, after retiring from his more than 25 years of honorable service with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Young is a Jacksonville native and graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Management Technology. He also holds two master’s degrees, a Master of Science in Telecommunications Systems Management and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.

“FSCJ is honored to have Mr. Young join our District Board of Trustees, helping to guide our institution,” said FSCJ President Dr. Cynthia Bioteau. “Mr. Young is already familiar with the mission and vision of FSCJ having served on the FSCJ Foundation Board since 2012. His operational and executive experience will make him a great asset to the strategic direction of the College.”

During his career, Mr. Young commanded two naval warships and completed a tour of duty at the Pentagon. He also served as the Commander of a Navy School Command and Regional Director of Admissions at the Naval Academy, where he was directly responsible for education and training, student development and recruitment. Mr. Young also has extensive experience working closely with federal agencies and branches, local governments, faith-based and community organizations and private sector businesses.

Mr. Young succeeds Latasha Garrison and is appointed for a term beginning February 9, 2018 and ending May 31, 2021. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
