A summation from Professor Betina Malhotra, Ph.D., FSCJ coordinator of the project: What an Unbelievable Day!

"What an Unbelievable Day! We all came together and were able to restore the playground facilities at Justina Road Elementary School.

"FSCJ students and faculty, Team Depot together with the RiverKeeper, worked with Active Duty Military from [Naval Station Mayport], and community members from Justina Road Elementary School to transform the playground on Saturday. Through hard work and dedication, the playground facilities were transformed, the children of Justina Road witnessed the plans that they had developed with their teachers come to life. Rain gardens and sustainable garden boxes were installed, and the children participated in Authentic learning. FSCJ pre-service teachers participated in the very type of standards-based project-based learning they have been learning to develop."

The restored playground was revealed to returning Justina Road Elementary School students the morning of April 29 with an unveiling complete with US Navy personnel in dress whites!
