Nov 1, 2022, 10:59 AM
Florida State College at Jacksonville is partnering with Duval County Public Schools to launch the new Pre-Early College program. The program will benefit middle school students in Duval County.

The Pre-Early College program will be piloted at 11 middle schools offering advanced students an opportunity to earn a minimum of three high school credits, as well as three college credits while in middle school. Beginning in seventh grade, students will participate in an advanced reading course that will prepare them to take the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT). Upon receiving a pre-defined achievement score on the PERT, students will be enrolled in the college Student Life Skills (SLS) course as an eighth-grade student on the middle school campus and will earn three college credits.

The program will begin during the 2015-16 school year with a seventh-grade cohort of students at the following Duval schools:

  • Arlington Middle
  • Landmark Middle
  • Kernan Middle
  • Alfred duPont Middle
  • Southside Middle
  • Ribault Middle
