FSCJ Nursing Department Celebrates History of Brewster Nurses

WHAT: Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) department of nursing is partnering with First Coast Black Nurses’ Association to celebrate Brewster nurses during Black History Month through a historical perspective of the triumphs and challenges of Brewster nurses as well as nurses throughout Duval County. 

Brewster Hospital was not only the first African American hospital in Jacksonville, but also in the U.S., operating from 1901 to 1966.

The objective of the program is to provide the history of the Brewster nurses in the hospital and its significance to the minority population of Duval County.

Special guests include graduates of Brewster-Duval School of Nursing, along with faculty and administration, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority and the First Coast Black Nurses’ Association.  

Light refreshments will be served immediately following the program.
