FSCJ Hosts Intercultural Film Series Through Tournées Film Festival Grant from the French-American Cultural Exchange Foundation

Nov 1, 2022, 10:57 AM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) was recently awarded the Tournées Film Festival Grant from the French-American Cultural Exchange (FACE) Foundation to support the College’s intercultural film series beginning February 24.

Since its inception in 1995, the film festival program has partnered with more than 450 major universities and colleges across the United States to bring French cinema to American postsecondary students and reaching an audience of more than 500,000 students and interested community members.

The film screening events will be hosted at FSCJ’s South and Kent Campuses and Deerwood Center in an effort to provide additional rigorous and relevant interdisciplinary, co-curricular programming for foreign language students. In direct response to FSCJ’s strategic goals, the series will create new pathways to engage students with high-quality academic content while providing them with transformative and holistic learning opportunities. The visual and auditory context will present authentic and varied language situations to enhance student comprehension and engagement.

The project will impact at least 200 students in its first year, but is expected to reach many more, as all students Collegewide – not just those enrolled in foreign language courses – and community members are invited to attend.

“As students are exposed to diverse media sources in our current globalized culture, it is incumbent on FSCJ to provide mediated and instructive experiences to help students understand, appreciate and think critically about the cultural content they encounter,” said faculty project lead, Dr. Holly Masturzo. “We are grateful for the FACE Foundation’s support and eagerly anticipate the impact the series will most certainly have on our students’ learning and cultural exploration.”

Tournées Film Festival is made possible with the support of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S., the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée (CNC), the French American Cultural Fund, Florence Gould Foundation and Highbrow Entertainment.
