Florida State College at Jacksonville hosts a day of awareness on vision loss and the deaf community with Thursday events at two of its campuses.
FSCJ’s Vision Education and Rehabilitation Center will hold activities to heighten awareness and sensitivity to people with vision loss from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downtown Campus lobby and courtyard at 101 W. State St. The community can explore visual disability through a white cane maze challenge, blindfold activities, Braille demonstrations, video presentations and free vision screenings.
The college’s Sign Language Interpretation Program is also hosting events regarding the deaf culture, American Sign Language and ASL/English Interpreting from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the college’s South Campus Cafeteria at 11901 Beach Blvd. Visitors can meet local deaf residents, the college ASL club and sign language program students and staff. The event includes performances by the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind Dance Troupe.
