JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) students, faculty and staff participated in #GivingTuesday on November 30, 2021, collecting food, personal items and monetary donations to benefit the FSCJ H.O.P.E. Food Pantry.

Over the course of the day, $18,257 was raised through more than 230 donors. An anonymous donor had originally agreed to match up to $12,500 but, they were so touched by the outpouring of support, they agreed to match all donations dollar for dollar, bringing the grand total to $36,514, which equates to 219,084 meals for families in need.

Additionally, FSCJ and Feeding Northeast Florida partnered to host a mobile food giveaway at Downtown Campus, distributing 6,052 pounds of food to 207 individuals, 97 of which were students. To see photos taken during the event, see attached.

“As the community’s college, we are committed to serving the academic, professional and personal needs of our students and neighbors,” said College President John Avendano, Ph.D. “We are humbled by the gracious generosity of all those who supported the food pantry this Giving Tuesday; it is only through our partners and supporters that we can do this work, and we cannot thank all those who gave enough.”

The FSCJ H.O.P.E. Food Pantry, located at South Campus and Downtown Campus, was created to help students who are experiencing food insecurity.
