FSCJ Fly-In and Discovery Flights for Veterans

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM
WJXT Channel 4 visited the Florida State College at Jacksonville Aviation Center on Nov. 10 to witness the Fly-In and Discovery Flights the College and Sunrise Aviation hosted for veterans.

FSCJ hosted an Aviation Center Open House and Fly-In (like an auto show, but for planes) for aviators to fly in their planes to the longest runway in Northeast Florida and meet-and-greet with other pilots and aviation enthusiasts. The FSCJ Aviation Center of Excellence gave guided tours of their Aviation facility, one of the most sophisticated aviation and air traffic control training centers in the Southeast USA. Free Discovery Flights for Veterans, were offered by Sunrise Aviation, which provides the College's flight instruction, as a small token of appreciation. "We had 120 plus individuals participate in the event, with lots of veterans, activities, stories, and smiles," reported Dr. Jeff Hess, Dean. Sunrise gave out a total of 26 flights.Note: the speakers in the interviews are misidentified. The first interview is actually Aviation Program Manager Sam Fisher; the second is Jeff Richardson, chair of the FSCJ Aviation Advisory Committee and former Navy lieutenant.
