FSCJ Engaging Students, Faculty, Staff and the Community

Nov 1, 2022, 10:59 AM
Convocation 2015 was marked by a welcoming and eloquent speech of encouragement and reinvigoration by President Bioteau, an incredibly entertaining and motivational presentation by Professors Chad Kuyper and Rawlslyn Francis and a phenomenal musical performance by FSCJ staff and alumni, Morton Perry and Steven Gunter, which left faculty and staff on their feet in a standing ovation.

Dr. Bioteau’s address, built off of a captivating video—What’s Right in this World, answered the question, what’s right at FSCJ.

“If I focus on what is right with our College, I see so many good people, great accomplishments and many possibilities. These are possibilities because of each of you in this room. We have an increased focus on increasing student success and helping them meet their goals, for engaging our community through intentional relationship building with our employers and industry partners.”

“Engagement is the theme this year because I believe engagement is an essential piece of our growth as an institution. Engagement in learning, in teaching, with the community, through civic engagement and service learning, and with our employers for workforce and economic development.”

Echoing the sentiment of Dr. Bioteau, Professors Kuyper and Francis challenged everyone to move forward this year with their answer to the question in mind, “why do you do what you do?” Reminding everyone that engagement begins with us as faculty and staff.

We also cannot forget to mention our wonderful host, Dr. Erin Richman, who lead a fun and entertaining ceremony for the second year in a row.

As we begin the 2015-16 academic year, continue to think of how you engage and how you make a difference in the story of FSCJ. Let’s make this year all about increasing engagement both inside and outside the classroom.
