About the play:
“The Stinky Cheese Man (and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” was written by Jon Scieszka with illustrations by Lane Smith and published in 1992. The book won the New York Times Best Illustrated Book and was a 2012 Caldecott Honor book. This stage adaptation by John Glore was produced at San Diego’s South Coast Repertory Theatre in 2014. This musical stage version is a twisted take on some of the best-known fairy tales, including “The Princess and the Bowling Ball”, “Little Red Running Shorts”, The Really Ugly Duckling”, and The Tortoise and the Hair”. The story of “The Stinky Cheese Man” is a satirical spin on “The Gingerbread Man”. Enjoyable for both adults and kids of all ages – adults enjoy the sarcastic underlying humor in the writing and younger audiences enjoy the delightful surprises in the reinvention of these familiar tales.
