On Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in culmination of Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) 50th anniversary and in the spirit of giving back, FSCJ is hosting its Giving Back … Going Forward celebration in support of the Giving Tuesday global campaign initiative.

Through a generous tree donation from Green Releaf, a partnership between JEA and Greenscape of Jacksonville, a local nonprofit dedicated to enriching the city’s landscape through planting, protecting and promoting trees, on December 1, a total of 200 new trees will be planted on FSCJ campuses to improve the environmental surroundings and ecological impact of each campus.

The ceremonial tree planting event will begin at 10 a.m. at FSCJ’s Downtown Campus on the green between the Advanced Technology Center and Administrative Offices located at 501 West State Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. The ceremony will include remarks by FSCJ President Dr. Cynthia Bioteau and Greenscape of Jacksonville Executive Director Anna Dooley, followed by the initial tree lowering and planting. While the official tree planting ceremony is taking place at Downtown Campus, planting ceremonies will simultaneously occur on each of the other FSCJ campuses.

To pay it forward and give back to the local community, FSCJ will be collecting various items for local nonprofits and charities on the First Coast from 6:30 a.m.-noon on December 1 at each of its campuses. See below for a list of campuses and corresponding organizations.

“Having this opportunity to give back to our students, faculty, staff and Jacksonville community is a true honor to show our appreciation for the decades of unyielding support and commitment shown to this institution,” said FSCJ President Dr. Cynthia Bioteau. “It is through the generosity of educational, community and business leaders, alumni, residents, employees and students that FSCJ has become the exceptional institution it is over the last 50 years and will continue to be for another 50 years. We are humbled to partner with and serve the great organizations of the First Coast on this Giving Tuesday.”
FSCJ faculty, staff, students and the general public are encouraged to join the global initiative and give back on this day. Those interested in supporting FSCJ’s Giving Back … Going Forward and #GivingTuesday campaign can:

About Giving Tuesday
Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
