FSCJ BlueWave Athletes Honored for Academic Achievement

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) 2016-17 BlueWave Baseball team was ranked 10th in the nation for academic success by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and second in the state for Region 8. The students on the team maintain a cumulative team GPA of 3.36. The minimum grade point average requirement for consideration is a team GPA of 3.00.

Additionally, there are 16 BlueWave student-athletes who have been recognized for academic achievement and awarded NJCAA honors on the First, Second and Third All-Academic Teams. The All-Academic First Team are those students with a GPA of 4.0, the Second Team are those students who maintain a 3.99-3.8 GPA and the Third Team includes students who earn a GPA between 3.79 and 3.6. These students include:

First Team

  • Baseball: Ricky Boyette, Felix Garcia, Mill Lang, Gavin Oliver,
  • Softball: Megan Garcia, Anessa Holes, Megan Walkowski
  • Women’s Basketball: Megan Garcia

Second Team

  • Baseball: Brady Vanhook
  • Softball: Valerie Holguin
  • Volleyball: Ashley Coderre

Third Team

  • Baseball: Chase Diaz, Brennen Hogan
  • Softball: Valerie Holguin
  • Volleyball: Aysa Avery, Lauren Roney, Yanessa Garcia

Thirty-nine other BlueWave athletes earned a 3.3 or higher GPA and are honored as All-Academic for the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA), Region 8.

These students include:

  • Baseball: Joseph Arce, Ricky Boyette, Chase Diaz, Chase Evans, Dustin Fornari, Felix Garcia, Cale Gibson, Dylan Hall, Joseph Hoelle, Brennen Hogan, Logan Hollyman, Mill Lang, Robert McMahon, Connor Miller, Gavin Oliver, Jordan Speck and Brady VanHook.
  • Softball: Carolina Colli, Peyton Guerrin, Anessa Holes, Valerie Holquin, Morgan Mather, Kailey Perry and Megan Walkowski.
  • Volleyball: Sierra Albrecht, Aysa Avery, Cheryke Brian-Garmos, Ashley Coderre, Olivia Fallon, Yanessa Garcia, Asante Lopez, and Lauren Roney.
  • Tennis:  Annaleigh Collings and Julia Jackson
  • Men’s Basketball:  Nick Stawter and Ronald Taylor
  • Women’s Basketball:  Yolizma Cupidan, Megan Garcia and Onyeka Monyei
