Team encounters most difficult competition they’ve seen all year; one more tournament to go!

Great news to kick off the long holiday weekend:

Florida State College at Jacksonville Forensics Team competed at the Phi Rho Pi National Forensics Tournament, held in Greenwich, CT, April 11-16. According to Professor Chad Kuyper, FSCJ Forensics team director, the team encountered the most difficult competition they’ve seen all year, finding themselves matched against powerhouse schools from California, Illinois and Texas. However, the team came away with victory…and they have the medals to show for it!

  • Catherine Bylery is a national bronze medalist in Prose Interpretation.
  • Ben Beutjer is a national bronze medalist in Impromptu Speaking.
  • Garrett McLain is a national silver medalist in Persuasive Speaking.

Congratulations to the medalists, the team and Professor Kuyper!

The final event of the FSCJ Team's forensics season takes place this weekend. Garrett McLain will represent the entire state of Florida at the oldest speaking contest in the country, The Interstate Oratorical Association National Tournament at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Look here next week for results!

BTW, Florida State College at Jacksonville will be closed April 22-24 for the Easter holiday.
