Florida State College at Jacksonville Welcomes New Experts

Pending approval by Florida State College at Jacksonville's Board of Trustees, the College will officially welcome its first group of new talent for 2012 this afternoon. Some will teach classes on our campuses, others will design courses that'll be offered online. All of them will contribute to the quality of education offered by Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Nicola Wayer: E-learning Instructional Designer, Open Campus
Nicola Wayer comes to Florida State College at Jacksonville from the University of Florida where she served as an instructional designer, distance education specialist and an adjunct instructor. She was also a learning opportunities center coordinator at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. She earned her M.Ed. (Master of Education) in Secondary Education & Curriculum and Technology at UNF and her B.A. in Deaf Education and Elementary Education from Flagler College.

Inez Whipple: E-learning Instructional Designer, Open Campus
Inez Whipple comes to Florida State College at Jacksonville from Pima Community College where she served as an instructional designer. Prior to that position, she was the Director of the Center for Learning Technology and Clinical Director of the Respiratory Care program at Reading Area Community College. She earned her M.A. in Adult Education/Distance Learning at the University of Phoenix and her B.S. in Professional Arts at St. Joseph’s College of Maine.

Dr. Cornelia Albano: Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences, Kent Campus
Dr. Cornelia Albano comes to Florida State College at Jacksonville from the University of Phoenix where she served as an online instructor. Prior to that position, she was an adjunct instructor at the College of the Desert. Dr. earned her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Maryland. She earned her M.S. and B.S. in Biomedical Research from University of Maryland Medical School. Before jumping into higher education, Dr. Albano spent more than a decade working in the scientific community.

Scott Cook, Assistant Professor, Developmental Writing, Downtown Campus
Scott Cook comes to Florida State College at Jacksonville from Michigan where he served as an adjunct instructor at Schoolcraft Community College and a writing center consultant at Mott Community College. He earned his M.F.A in Creative Writing at the University of Alaska and his B.A. in English/Philosophy at Western Michigan University.

Charlene Carswell, Instructor, Surgical Technology, North Campus
Charlene Carswell comes to Florida State College at Jacksonville after serving as a Travel Cardiac Technician for the past two years. Prior to that career move, she service as a cardiac, thoracic and vascular technician at the University of Michigan. She was also spent a year at the Mayo Clinic as a vascular and general technician. Ms. Carswell earned her A.S. in Surgical Technology at Fortis College in Orange Park.

Nancy Sutton, Instructional Program Manager, Paralegal Studies and Interior Design, Kent Campus
Nancy Sutton has been an assistant professor at Florida State College at Jacksonville since 2010. She ran her own law office (Law Office of Nancy Sutton) and spent some time teaching high school. She earned her law degree at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and her bachelor’s degree in History at Nazareth College in Rochester New York.

Deborah Brabham, Instructor, Practical Nursing, North Campus
Deborah Brabham began her career at Florida State College back in 1997 as an adjunct professor. At that time, she already had nearly two decades of nursing experience, having worked at Gateway Community Services, Eagle Crest Nursing Center, Shands Jacksonville and Baptist Medical Center. She earned her M.S. in Nursing Education at Jacksonville University, her B.S. in Nursing at the University of Phoenix and her A.S. degree and L.P.N. Certification from Florida State College at Jacksonville.
