Florida State College at Jacksonville to offer K-12 Econ teacher training

Nov 1, 2022, 10:58 AM
Center on Economic and Financial Education: Florida State College at Jacksonville to offer K-12 teacher training at new Kent Campus facility. Center dedication set for December 7, 4 p.m. at Kent Campus.

Cultivating students’ understanding of economic and personal finance in the early stages of their education can transform the way they participate in the U. S. economy. It can also improve their understanding of economic events, and influence the way they manage their money and their financial futures.

As The State of Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for economics become more demanding, it is important to intensify the preparation of students in K-12. The professional development training and workshops offered through the Center on Economic and Financial Education at Florida State College focus on ensuring teachers in Duval and surrounding counties are capable and well-prepared to teach the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for economics and personal finance.

Professor Vincent Jackson, Ph.D., has been named as the director of the new Center. Participating in the dedication will be Geoff Simon, board chair, Florida Council on Economic Education, Robin Warren, executive director, FCEE and Jerry Mallott, executive vice president, JAX Chamber.
